The Joys of FEMA

Did any of you know that FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) offers free online college courses?

Yeah. I didn't either. 

Fortunately, a CollegePlus! friend of mine was able to inform me of this fabulous way to earn college credit before I finalized my degree template. As a Humanities major, I need to have 27 credits of free electives. Six of those, I will be earning for free, from home, through FEMA. 

Here's how it works. You visit the FEMA Independent Study Program website and chose the course you'd like to take. Each course is worth one college credit. All you need to do it read through the course material and then take a short, open-book exam at the end. You can even look the answers up if you need to. You never need to leave your house and these courses are completely free. Each course takes only a couple of hours to complete. 

As I said, I am taking six of these FEMA courses:

• Leadership & Influence
• Emergency Planning
• Effective Communication
• A Citizen's Guide to Disaster Assistance
• Emergency Manager: An Orientation to the Position
• Decision Making and Problem Solving
